I think I may have over done it with the liquid CO2 and liquid fertilizer :icon_cry:

Our tank water is now turning a pale yellow/green..... What can I do to get rid of it? I've done a 50% water change and it's looking better but it will go back to the green within a day or two. I know I can get a UV Sanitizer but it's not in the budget as of now. PLEASE HELP!!!

Just let it sit for 10 days. Don't do water changes during that period. It will get really thick, eat up whatever nutrient combo you provided it, and then clear up.

Trying to "thin it out" via water changes will not work in most cases.

And keep in mind, when it comes to fertilizer, more <> better.

We're running our lights 10 hours a day. The green water is all gone!! I run into a friend of mine that runs the fish department at my local Petco.... I don't trust him because he runs a fish department but because he had some of the most amazing tanks I've ever seen! He told me a super easy trick to clear up the green water in about an two hours!

Step 1: Add 1/2 table spoon of peroxide for every 10 gallons of water
Step 2: Wait 30 minutes for the peroxide to do it's job.
Step 3: Add a good quality clarifier
Step 4: Let the clarifier work for an hour
Step 5: Change out your filter
YOU'RE DONE!!!!

That is great. Seems faster and cheaper than buying an UV filter for sure!

Now why did GW turn up? If it was the extra doses of CO2 and fertilizers you know not to do that again!

I haven't had GW turn up because of that, my GW seems to come when I mess around in the tank and don't have a good enough biological filter and when nitrates are zero.

I'm fairly sure that the green water started because while I was away on a trip... my husband failed to close the blinds in our bedroom so the tank had sunlight shining in it all day..... And I don't think he cleaned the gravel when he did the water change.. I think it was a lot of things that just happened to happen at once. The tank is crystal clear now...So I'm super happy!!!
