Yes it's big enough for a RCS tank, although you won't be able to fit many.

Look into an AZOO Palm Filter. It's small and inexpensive. Just cover the intake with something to keep the shrimp from being suck up.

WOW thats a lot of light... 5 watts/.5gal.!!!!! (or 10 Watts/gal.)

You could put a number of plants in that tank... although I am not much of a hex fan, especially for a planted nano.

because if you have a 1 gallon and you have a 4 watt light, thats 4WPG

... you know 4 watts of light wont be able to grow anything... 4 watt is like a candle light

yeah the 10wpg thing doesn't really count. i just figured i could kinda grow stuff in my 10g with a 15w light so i should be able to do the same in this tank.

i'm not a big fan of hex tanks either (even though i have two... both freebies!) since they have such a small square footage/gallon ratio. i ordered some RCS (20 to be exact). I'm gonna put most of them in other tanks but how many could i put in this tank without overcrowding due to the small floorspace?

also ordered the azoo palm filter.

I have over 100 CRS in a 3g and they do just fine. You could easily have 40 or 50 in here without much worry. It'll be hard to keep their population that small though :tongue:

How big is the hood? Most hoods with screw in style talk about "incandescents". You should be able to fit a 10 watt compact fluorescent bulb there.

you have that many?!?!?! wow! i read something on azgardens.com that said you should have 4 per gallon at the most... so if i just went by that rule i could only have 6... haha

it's not a big hood at all. and where can i find the right kind of screw in style compact flourescent bulb? walmart? i've ready something about ge9375k bulbs or something... is that what i should go for?

and what kind of plant(s?) should i go for?

what substrate should i use?
