Small snails just started appearing in my tank. I didn't buy any new plants, but pulled out a bunch of plants. Can anyone tell me by the attachment if these are good or bad snails? I do have a handful of Nerite snails in the tank. Plant Wood Terrestrial plant Water Houseplant

You've been in the hobby long enough to know "good" and "bad" are relative terms. Really depends upon circumstances. In my opinion, snails play an integral role in a planted tank. They're beneficial. Most populations won't get out-of-control if their food source(s) are kept in check. They clean up detritus, dead critters, errant algae, plant decay, that sort of thing.

It's tough to tell from the photos but they're likely Malaysian Trumpet Snails. There's a similar type of mud snail but they're much more rare in the hobby.

Do they tend to come out more when your lights are off? Burrow in the substrate?

I would say they come out more when the light is on, but I will look tonight. Also, will have to see if they dig.
