They were illegal due to CA banning genetically modified animals (specifically fish?); but the intent was to prevent one particular thing and eventually they loosened up a bit. Last I read glofish were perfectly legal to buy anywhere in the states......just dont try to breed 'em yourself and sell as apparently thats a major no-no lol! I believe Canada still bans the import/selling of glofish.
