I am currently trying to transform my aquarium from a jungle complete with driftwood, open substrate, and long, straight, green leaves to a nice colorful dutch aquarium.

I am not a master aquascaper but I am working on it since I have done a lot of research regarding the different types of scaping but I want to know, aside from individual preference, if my backdrop can remain giant vals? I have them covering 3" deep along the entire back of the tank and they hide all the equipment and cables really well and i don't want to move them.

Is this alright for the starts of a dutch scape or should i go with a background that has more "shape" to the leaves?

Thoughts?

Abe
