I am looking for a light for my 29gal. I plan on using DIY c02. I was thinking about getting a 1x65 watt Current USA fixture. What color bulb should I get?

I know a lot of people like the 10,000K and the 9325K bulbs. Should I get one of these?

Thanks
Chris

I really like the AHsupply 55 watt kit with a 7800K bulb. That is what I am currently using on my 29. I have the bulb positioned about 4" from the top of the aquarium. One bulb is great for medium light!

The Current 1x65w Satellite comes with a square pin 50/50 SmartPaq 10,000K/460nm. http://current-usa.com/satellite.html

You can find a good selection of 65w square pin bulbs.
Both Current and Coralife make 6700K and 10,000K bulbs for it.
Current offers a dual daylight 6700K/10,000K bulb for it.
Coralife has a Colormax/6700K bulb for it.
There may be some old 8800K bulbs around for it.

The 7800K bulbs and the 9325K bulbs are straight pin bulbs and they will not work unless you have an adapter.

My first choice would be the Coralife Colormax/6700K bulb because one of the tubes somewhat mimics the 9325K bulb. You can see it at www.esuweb.com. I'd link you up but the site is down right now. Big Al's carries it: http://www.bigalsonline.com/BigAlsU...coralifecolormax6700k65wpowercompactlampsqpin

My second choice would be the dual daylight 6700K/10,000K bulb: http://current-usa.com/sunpaq.html
All of Current's square pin bulbs are on sale at the Dr.'s: http://www.drsfostersmith.com/Product/Prod_Display.cfm?pcatid=11422&N=2004+113346

Hey thanks everyone for all of the info.. I like the idea of the dual daylight bulb.

The place i am going to get the current usa light is local here in Indy. Its here

http://www.premiumaquatics.com/Merc...uct_Code=CU-USA01004&Category_Code=currentusa

I can pick it up locally. I will need to buy a 30" glass top for it. I think they will change out the bulb for free.

Right now I have one of those el cheapo hoods that have a little glass window in it with a 24" 20watt (no reflector) fixture in it. So the plastic hood part will need to be replaced with a glass canopy.

I thought about just getting a AH retro 1x55. I think its about 22" so it will fit in the 24" light fixture I have, plus I wouldn't need to buy a glass canopy. So I wonder in the end if I would pay more or less for the AH retro?

Cd, do yourself a favor and save up for a 2x65
you really need more power on a 29gal tank
especially if you plan on bothering with Co2.

I only plan on using DIY c02, I have limited funds and I have a 90gal that I am going to do with pressurized Co2. But I want to get my start on my smaller 29g.

Will DIY co2 work with 130watts ?

Also, does anyone know of a good place to get a multi-plug timer ??
Home Depot has some. www.homedepot.com I can't give you a direct link. I've used the first timer before. It's a HD one:
Intermatic
15 Amp 1750 Watt 125 Volt AC 24 Hr. Heavy-Duty Timer
Model TN311D89
Price: $10.97/ea

Digital HD:
Intermatic
500 Watt 120 Volt AC Heavy-Duty Pad Digital Timer
Model DT17C
Price: $19.95/ea

Radio Shack has some timers as well.

Ahhh, another 30" 29 gallon pal. :)

I myself got a 2x65W, but took out a bulb cause I think I'd just be growing algae for now with the 2nd bulb. I'm on DIY CO2 too.

Just curious, do you just have one bottle that you replace often? I'm thinking I should get two bottles and put it on both sides of the tank but... hmm. Also means I need to get more diffusors = $$$ that I don't have.

I have two of the 30" Coralife dual T-5 fixtures over my 30" 29 gallon tank -- each fixture has a Colormax bulb and a 6700k plant bulb in it for a total of 72 watts over the tank, which is working out nicely. I have DIY CO2 also -- two 2L bottles connected together and I swap out one bottle each week to keep a steady supply.

I ended up getting a Current USA Satilite 30" 2x65.

It came with the blue bulb and a dual daylight 6700/10k bulb.

I bought a 10k bulb to replace the blue, so I have 3/4 10k and 1/4 6700.

I love the way it looks!
