I have been searching for this fish for a long time and eventually bought a pair at my LFS. Unfortunately, a few weeks after, the female died and i suspect it was from the far east and had steroids which I hear is pretty common in fish stores. However, 6 months later the male is still alive and doing well so I wonder if I buy a female if they would ever possibly breed together. Would the age difference be a problem or are rams loyal to their mates?

Also, does anybody know any good places whether a website or a good breeder to purchase these fish?

Thank you all so much in advance!:fish:

I really want to get them there but the problem there is that they have a $30 minimum order and I am not planning on buying more then just a ram or two...

Today I went to m LFS and bought a female that they said was from a breeder and did not have injected hormones. That was great but the problem is that the female I just bought is about 3 times smaller then my male. My male is a year old and she is probably only a month old.

Good news though! I carefully acclimated her for 5 hours and right when I put her in the tank she immediately swam over to the male ram and they have been swimming next to eachother ever since. The only other inhabitant of the 29g is a SAE who occasionaly would chase the ram but never the other way around. Since adding the female now the male occasionaly chases the SAE so he is getting more aggresive.

I am soo excited that these rams are nice to eachother even though there is such a great age difference and I hope maybe they will even breed soon!

i really dont think age is going to be a problem in your situation and ya it sucks that you have to spend a min of $30 but it all depends on how bad you want your fish...if they have plants you can buy some of those so that way your getting something for your money...ive just never been to that website so i dont know what they got

All they have is a selection of about 25 fish mostly big or rare fish.

Here are some pictures of my rams:

I am feeding them cichlid flakes, freeze-dried bloodworms, cichlid gold food pellets, and frozen brine shrimp. Its pretty random which one or two I choose a day to feed them.
