I've finally got my hands on 2 GBRs I'm just not 100% sure that I have a male and female. I know one is a female but the other has me questioning myself that its a male. If you guys can tell please let me know.

Right now they're in an unoccupied planted tank for quarantine, then I need to figure out where to put them.

Looks like a male.
The blue sheen showing thru the black spots make me think its a female. But no pink haze on its belly and no black on its fins...probably a male.
Can you take a side on pic?

Sure looks like a male from that angle, though.
100% thats a male. I use to breed them about 8 years ago.
The fish (hopefully "he") is not cooperating and likes lining up perpendicular to me when I have the camera so I can't get a side shot. There are blue scales around the black spot but not directly within, I believe. I'll see if I can't get a side picture tomorrow but it's nice to hear that most people think its a male as well.
Its a male 100%
I have been doing lots of reading about GBR because I want to keep them in a 135 gallon im going to be seting up and I found this article - and according to this article that GBR would be a female -- http://www.aquaticcommunity.com/cichlid/germanblueram.php if you scroll down that page, it shows male and female and how to tell them apart.. So, I guess im curious as to if they are wrong about only females having black on the pectoral fins :eek5: because personally it looks to me as if there is black on the pectoral fins and that black spot has some blue sheen on it around the bottom edges.

Im pretty confident its a male.

both male and female have black on their pectoral fins - But the female's is a black black where as the males is more of a faded black. also they both have blue sheen around their black spot but on the female the blue flecks actually show through.

The big giveaway is no pink on the belly and the first few rays of the dorsal fin are extended
Alright now that it's colored up, black on the fins has shown up and there is a few spots of blue in the black spot. Now I'm pretty sure it's a female just no pink/red on the belly. Oh well, it was the only one in the tank that looked like a male (didn't have a pink belly). Here's some pics from just a few minutes ago.

I'll just have to wait till they get more in, I guess.

Its a male, I just looked for 5 min to mine and I see the same as yours in my males. Female should have darker pink belly. I saw males before with light pink belly's , but they were injected with hormones.

Almost sure its a Male, you will figure it out in couple more days when the colors come out or they (maybe) lay eggs if your water is soft and acidic enough.

I always keep some Indian Almond Leaves in my tanks to make the water softer and more acidic. Because of this I have 4 times spawning in a month from 3 couples.
I'd have to concur with it being a male. All the GBR females I've ever kept had a very pronounced pink blush spot, as pictured above.
It looks like a male. The female usually have a pink underbelly that turns bright pink/red when they are about to lay eggs.
