I recently started a small emersed tank with HC and UG, and while it's doing well, it looks a little lonely without any animals in it. So I did a little poking around and found this colorful little genus of crabs. Some species are very small, and with a few small adjustments, I think many emersed setups could handle a few.

Has anyone tried doing something like this with these little guys or anything similar?

Oh, I know that. These specific crabs are definitely more terrestrial than aquatic. I guess I was mostly wondering if anyone had ever kept any type of animal in their emersed tanks.

Is there anything that could live in the tank both before and after it is fully filled with water? Ideally that's what I would like to find.

I think vampire crabs will eat vegetation, or at least tear it up to make burrows, you mentioned you are growing HC and UG, those would probably get pulled up pretty easily
