Im thinking of buying a PAR meter. But $300 is a bit much for me to swallow for something I only plan to use 3-4x plus the occasional experiment (which I think most of us are in the same boat here)


so how much interest would there be in me buying it...and then renting it out to members here (with exclusions like 100+ posts and 3months membership here)

I would obviously have to have a large deposit tho...something like a $400 deposit (gotta remove any and ALL incentive to steal/keep/break it)

I ship it to you w/ a return shipping label and charge something like $25/wk (shipping included and 2-weeks max)...then credit back the difference after I receive the unit back (deliver confirmation #s obviously)

The SQ-100 and 300 series are considered to be self-powered and have been calibrated to 5.0 µmol m-2 s-1 per mV. Use a voltmeter with a mV setting to attain better resolution. Connect the positive lead of the voltmeter to the red wire of the SQ and the negative lead of the voltmeter to the black wire of the SQ. Once you are reading the mV output from the sensor, simply multiply this reading by 5.0. This will give you the µmol m-2 s-1 output from the sensor, otherwise known as Photosynthetic Photon Flux (PPF) or Photosynthetically Active Radiation (PAR).

yea i already knew about that...was actually planning on getting their PAR meter for $300+ and renting it out...but doesn't seem like people care enough...I'll give it a week and go from there

$100 still seems like alot to me though...guess I'm just not doing out right...i think it's .5 voltage resolution

I just rented one from a local fish store that specialized in reef tanks, it was $5 a day, and they just took a cc # as collateral. I would call around to all the reef stores in your area and I bet you will find one that rents them. Unless you a reason to need one for more then a day or two.

If I was going to buy one I think I would use this setup for $190 plus it measures PH, Ammonia, LUX, Kelvin, PAR, Temp, water level, and it outputs it to a computer.
