gas bubbles are coming up from organic compost substrate what is this, i think it could be killing plant roots

my rotala green looks yellow

this is a new tank correct?
any number of things can release but mostly bubbles will contain CO2 once the bacteria is fully established.

Does it smell bad? If it is gas from anaerobic bacteria it will smell bad.
