Or for that matter, non galvanized? How risky is rust in a tank? Seems like an almost natural occurrence, as long as the tank was regularly cleaned it wouldn't be a problem, right?

whats the purpose, maybe there is another option or you could coat it with krylon fusion or something else

I have an abundance of it. Was going to drill a piece of manzy and insert a piece of 1/4 or 3/8th to keep it down. Could use it to join pieces. Just basically using it in the aquarium to weight/tie things together.

Galvanizing is heavy in zinc so you may end up with too much zinc in the tank and poisoning it.

Since you just want to hold some driftwood under water, why not just silicon a rock to it? I've also drilled the rock (slate or similar soft rock) and the driftwood, and used a nylon cable tie to hold them together.

High end stainless screws and connectors can be purchased from shops catering to high end sail boats. The cost will only hurt once.
