It needs oil in the felt pads.

Hey Les,

Check out this link http://www.aquariacentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=203986 if you have any advice or maybe want to add it to your old eheim filter collection. It would be a shame to trash this filter if only for a piece of history.
I didn't want to join for one post. The motor on that style has bearings running on felt pads that need to be full of oil. The felt pads are in the metal cups or covers on either end of the shaft and both sides of the motor plates. At worst, one has to take the motor apart to get at the pads. At best a needle oil dispenser can reach them.

FIlter model 383 was also called model 1020 unfortunately parts are no longer available. These units were discontinued over 25 years ago and replaced by model 2011 (which became 2211)

Note that the unit is 240V 50Hz therefore it will not work in Nort America.

It's a great piece of antique!

Thanks, I just got an email from Eheim stating exactly what Etos said. If shipping wasn't cost prohibitive, I would like to get it from him just to have that antique.
