Wondering if I can get away with using the Fluval Stratum in setting up an Iwagumi setup.....aren't really able to get ADA Soil at a cost effective price in Canada as far as I know...thoughts?

Not sure why you wouldn't be able to?

I've got Shrimp Stratum in probably 20 tanks - many of which are Iwagumi-esque. See it in a couple here.

The only plus of the ADA stuff (and it's what I usually use) is that it's got nutrients and such.

Just add some root tabs or caps to your Stratum if you want to go that route.

I've tried growing an HC carpet with it but I couldn't. It was too light for the plants to get rooted. OTOH growing it in Aquasoil couldn't be easier IME.

You can get ADA stuff in Canada. There are Canadian retailers who sell it (at a huge markup) or you can get it shipped from AFA like I did.
