Flourite/Eco complete mix?

1139 Views 5 Replies 6 Participants Last post by  Left C
Has anyone done this and have some pictures? I currently have a 38G with Flourite and looking to move it into my new 85G but want to use my existing Flourite - I have heard it looks great with eco-complete so looking for some pix first!

Thank you in advance!!!!

I would advise against it; black with red will be too much contrast. I think it will look like those tanks with colored gravel and detract from the plants.
All of these brand substrate have a somewhat different persnonality. Some have no effect on your water parameters while others increase or lower your PH. At the end of the day it all comes down to personal preference or how you want to influence the growth of the different plants you choose to keep.

I hope that made sense...basically I would also not mix them. Not only because of the contrast mentioned above but also because I would rather explore the individuality of each subsrate.

You have experienced with flourite - yet you feel like trying something new. Go with one all the way. My advice is to test your base water parameters, figure out the ideal environment prefered by the plants you want to grow, and you will find the substrate that is right for you.

The wrong choice of substrate often leaves us frustrated at the end when its too late. I currently have flourite and sand in a 90g and, I wish I had not compromised and went with a quality substrate that fits my goals from the get go. As I gain more experience with the PT thing I realise I will have to start over the right way. Making the well tought out choices right from the start is underestimated when starting out in this hobby, not to mention less costly...

Choose wisely! :)

No, Eco-Complete is too light and Fluorite is too heavy, bad mix IMO.
on or the other, i have eco in one tank and flourite in another, they colors are so contrasted it would look silly,

Also they are not much different then each other except for flourite is more flakes and is heavier and eco is little round granules. Both are fired clay sooo yea
