Flourish Excel and 36W/29GAL

1054 Views 4 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  Bay
I recently acquired a 36 W T5 NO light for my 29 gallon aquarium which is home to a moderately sized gold fish and two young weather loaches. I plan to have a medium-heavy planted setup with java fern, java moss, and anubias. I know these plants don't need much, but will dosing with Flourish Excel better stimulate growth? The instructed dosage is daily, but I've heard other people say they dose less often - maybe 2-3 times a week. Could this be harmful? Recommendations?

Thanks in advance!

Since you're going with such slow-growing plants, I don't think you'll need to dose Excel daily.

I suspect you'll need it occasionally since your lighting is a bit higher than what your plant choices will need, but I think weekly will probably do it.

You do need to plan for large weekly water changes based on your bioload, and if that goldfish is a comet-type you need to plan a pond upgrade for it sooner rather than later... those guys can grow up to 18-24".

I agree. On my low light tank all I dose is excel and plantgro by nutrafin my java fern grows like crazy, my anubias grow 1leaf a week, and my jungle gals need to be trimmed in half every 2
I dose Excel daily and Flouish about twice a week. I have T5HO lights and I don't know if it's right (still researching) but my plants are growing like crazy.
Thanks for the replies! The goldfish is a fantail. I do ~30% water changes every week. The tank has been established since September and I've had the goldfish for 2 years before this tank, so no worries.

H20LOVER, how often do you dose the Excel?
