Are floating plants a bad idea if using sump and overflow? I could see it getting blocked. Thoughts

you could make an airline corral with zip ties and then tie it off with fishing line to a side of the tank using a weight.

I suspect it won't block it that much - when the floaters get too thick, remove some of it.

That's exactly what I do. Dollar Store suction cups, fishing line, done. Works great!
