I just got 6 flag fish for my 29 gallon, 2 males and 4 females, to take care of my hair algae problem and each day there is less and less algae. Unfortunately one of the males found a "cave" in the aquascape and now chases all the others away to the left side of the tank. Usually would consider this endearing killifish behavior except for the fact that there is more hair algae on the right side of the tank. None of the left side btw.

Is this temporary due to spawning or is this "cave" his home for now on?

Could just move all the hair algae contaminated plants and drift wood to the left side of the tank so that the others can eat said algae or return the culprit territorial flag fish. I'd rather have the fish continually roaming all of the tank picking off future algae growth.

To update, the male flag fish chilled out quite a bit to where everyone is free to roam the cabin again. Perhaps this only happens at spawning time?

In other news, the hair algae, that blanketed and suffocated the plants, is now completely gone!

I didn't have to refrain from feeding them. Read that others algae eaters only go for the hair algae when fish food is not provided.
