Day 3 of my new tank, water tests showed Amm and nitrite present (this was actually a suprise as I thought that my substrate - UP Aqua Shrimp Soil - shouldnt leech ammonia and I hadnt "fed" the tank with anything yet). I did a big water change (90%). On day 6 tested again and tests showed Amm still present but low (~0.5ppm) no nitrites and no nitrates. Today (day 9) I tested again and got the same results. Additionally I have been dosing starter bacteria every day.
Any tips on what I should do next? I have sprinkled some flakes to create a bit more ammonia for the bacteria but my thoughts are my big water change kinda messed up the cycle.
