Fishing jumping out of tank.

One of my rummies jumped out today after I did a 40% water change yesterday. There are 9 left in this 25 gallon. I assume its the ph swing. How long should I leave out some water for a water change so the ph doesn't swing too much. I was also contemplating getting an ro unit from spectrapure for less than $200.

Also plants not growing as well as I'd like considering I just upgraded to co2 and have the drop checker in the green for the entire 8 photoperiod. Its been about 3 weeks since set up but there isn't much growth with the hc and hairgrass and I am running 2 24w t5hos. Ph is at 7 or lower, gh at 8, kh at 3. Also already seeing algae on display rocks.... using ada aqua soil, dosing traces, excel, mono potassium phosphate on ei. Any thoughts? I was thinking pressurized co2 was going to be enough to make me happy,

do you have a bin or something large enough to hold the amount of water you change? if so, you can simply put the water in said container, use your dechlor and put an airstone in there. you need to add a heater as well to match your tank temp. that will stabilize the pH

Yeah I have a ten gallon steam pot, but I would have to pick up an extra heater.
Sometimes fish jump for no obvious reason. Uncovered tanks are risky, IMO.
Did you fill your tank higher than normal after the water change? I did that once and had two white clouds jump in the same day, just because it was easier for them to get out.
it may have been slightly higher, but I usually put in ro water during the week to make up for evaporation. I definitely will keep the water line lower though.
