Fish Stores in San Francisco

So i know that questions like this show up all the time, but i'm going to be visiting San francisco during presidents' day weekend, and i was wondering which fish/plant stores i should stop by while i'm there... i'm definitely going to check out Aqua Forest Aquarium, but are there any other places worth visiting? I was looking at Albany Aquarium's website, and it looks like they have a good selection. Has anyone been there before?

I'm interested in stores with a good plant selection, and/or a good fish selection. I'm not really interested in any equipment.

Thanks in advance for any help that you can offer.

There's a place..I think it's called Ocean Aquarium. It's a freshwater only place. Guy's name is Justin and He really seems to know his stuff!
I heard ocean aquarium is cool. Albany is great! IF you want to check out some ADA stuff go to AFA or aquaforrestaquarium.

I was thinking of going to that area tomorrow, but I think I spent enough on my tank this week.

Are you really driving from arizona?
I went to a place around 30mins from SF, it was really cool. Can't remember the name though, all I know is that it had a huge cylinder type SW tank and a huge arch thing with giant gouramis in it. Check out the local aquarium there also, its a must see.
After looking around the internet a bit and reading many reviews, here's what i plan to visit (in order). The only store that i've read very bad reviews about is 6th avenue aquarium. I don't plan on stopping there.

- Lucky Ocean Aquarium
- Aqua Forest Aquarium
- Ocean Aquarium
- Albany Aquarium

I think Albany Aquarium is about 30 minutes from San Francisco. Was that the place you went to?

Last time i was in SF, i went to the local aquarium and did the whole behind the scenes tour thing. I hope i'll have time to go there again. It was pretty awesome.

Thank you for the suggestions guys.

if you see a chubby asian guy with a asian girl thats short thats me lol dont be afraid to say hi.

are you just going to go see aquariums? If you guys want to have some fun, academy of arts is cool and there is a flower garden area on the other side....exploratorium is ok. Then of course the pier that everyone goes to. also berkly oh and also the japanese tea garden
All those places are great! Albany and AFA being the best. Abanys hella small but I've never been more impressed with a fish store. The store catons talking about is called aquarium concepts in Dublin,a lil farther then a half hr I think depends on traffic. Don't go to 6th ave!
Don't plan on buying anything from Justin without a water sample...not gonna happen. He's weird but definitely knows his stuff and If your waters no good or not a good match he WON'T sell u fish.

LOL if i see you, i'll make sure to say hello. ;) These are times when those TPT T-Shirts would really come in handy!

We're only going to be in San Francisco from Friday afternoon-Sunday morning i think, so i don't know how much extra time we'll have. But i'll definitely make sure to stop by those places if we have time. Thanks for the suggestions.

Yeah I've heard that both of those stores are amazing. I'm hoping that i'll be able to find a lot of cool plants to ship back to AZ!

Just looking at pictures of 6th ave aquarium creeps me out, lol. It looks like a scary place TBH!

Wait... so if i don't have a water sample with me, he won't sell me fish?!
Let's hope that he doesn't have any honeycomb catfish then, because those are the only fish that i would purchase and bring back to AZ with me.... lol. I'm hoping that i can find around 6 honeycomb catfish in one of the 4 stores. They're fairly uncommon in LFS's in Phoenix.
I just went to Albany Aquarium and loved it, I also love Aqua Forest in SF
Its kinda his thing I guess. He "reads" you and usually requires h20 samples as "protection". Just doesn't wanna sell u fish that don't belong in your water params. Albany and AFA are definitely gonna make you drool and BROKE,but you'll definitely be happy.
After a year ago in august, I finally got the name of the aquarium store we went to. Little far for you to travel though:

6920 amador plaza rd, Dublin, CA

Name: Aquarium concepts

Its is pretty cool, great SW and FW selection
The fish stores worth going to are Albany, AFA, and Ocean aquarium. I know there's alot of bad reviews about 6th avenue, but I like going there cause you'll never know what your gonna see. I saw a Nautilus snail for sale. Some horseshoe crabs. A lot of other fish or creatures you don't really see at other stores. Personally I would never buy anything live from them, but sometimes they have good plants for sale. The plants may not look all that in there tanks, but I know when they reach my tank they'll be doing a lot better. Didn't have that much luck with plants from Albany and AFA. Its because I believe they dose a bunch of different ferts in there planted tanks that when they reach my tank at home its like a total shock to the plants since I dont dose ferts at all. Hope enjoy your time out here.
