I was thinking that if shrimp eat mostly bio-film then why am I running a filter on my tank? Why not just circulate the water really well and let all the bacteria thrive on the sufaves in the tank instead of in the filter. this would provide more food for shrimps, yes.

the bacteria already thrive on all the surfaces. but this is also why people use sponge filters...

Shrimp keepers always over-filter their tanks for a reason.
