I was reading through some older posts on canister filters and did get some good info but I didn't see any threads directly related to 125/150 tanks. I'm thinking two smaller filters would be a better option than one large one. I'm also seeing a lot of recommendations for SunSun which I'm definitely going to take a closer look at. Is anyone using API FilStar or Marineland Multistage canisters as both are on sale at Dr's F and S right now? What is everyone using for media? One last question -Is anyone out there using Wet/Dry or trickle filters with sumps?

Thanks in Advance,
Roy

after I posted initially, I then saw you in another thread and I read through your 125 high tech thread. Your tank is very nice! I aspire to have something similar. Are the Eheim's user friendly?

Thanks, Yes the eheims are user friendly, maybe not the most user friendly, but certainly the most reliable IME and I've tried other brands. But a 125g tank is an awesome project to take on.

I can't wait to get it started! I have an incredible wife who saved up a bunch of money over the past two years and presented it to me as my 50th Birthday gift!! She knew this was my dream tank but she gave me the money because she knew I'd need special lights, substrate etc., for plants and she didn't want to disappoint and get me the wrong stuff! It's the research stage at this point!

There are many planted tanks going with the sump route as of late. There are pros and cons but the pros hugely outweigh the cons. I will give you my top reasons for a sump.
1)constant water level
2)extra volume
3)more real estate for the display since you can hide equipment
The only 2 cons are really the space required and the potential for co2 loss. The co2 loss is no biggie for if the system is setup effectively, the loss will not be noticed to make much of a difference.

I choose the sump route myself with my current project. Check out my link in my sig to get an idea on what I am speaking of.

As far as canisters, I am an Ehiem fan myself. I ran (2) 2213 on a high tech 55g and I would continue to run dual filters on any tank over 48" long if I didn't go with a sump. I am pretty much sold on sumps nowadays though but for a simple setup, Ehiems Classics for me.
