I have an xp3. I went to buy more bio star things and they only sell an eheim brand ceramic spheres and the box was 18 bucks rip if u ask me. I have read about diy methods. What should I fill the box with other than the factory 8-10 biostars the filter came with. I was thinking about going to dollar tree would bath loofas or flossy material work? Would current gravel from aquarium work? Appreciate anysuggestions

I think the best thing to use is the filter pads made to fit that filter. You can use a combination of medium and fine pads, and have both bio-filtration and mechanical filtration. Since it has so many filter media trays, you can put whatever bio media you can get in one tray, then never wash it, so it can re-seed the filter if you do clean the other media.

So a body washbpad would be fine. Like a loofa or body scrubber like u see wet dry filters use? Thanks for the help
