O.K Im stumped Ive picked up a nice 300x300x350 cube (mm) that Im building a stand for at the moment .
Ive looked at aquaclear 20 HOB for a filter but would prefer a canister (more due to the fact i want it near silent), is there any canister that will have low enough flow for a betta ?

Any help would be great , sorry if this post is in the wrong place

+1 on the sponge filter. Though, you don't even have to go the DIY route. You could order one for super-cheap and have it shipped to NZ for next to nothing.

Hydro makes several different sizes and there are generic (great, I use them in lots of tanks) single and double-sponge filters on the dreaded eBay that come with adjustable risers so you can change the direction of flow and easily control surface agitation.
