I by no means have experience with shrimp but from what I know many of them are delicate to water changes.
What temp are you trying to hit? I just let mine sit to room temp and then change the water. I am guessing that is not viable for you?

The point of water changes in a low tech setup, from my understanding, is removing excess nutrients/waste, and adding CO2.
I have never tried anything that would allow me to go without a water change. I did go almost a month once without a water change, not by choice. Everything survived but I also got a massive algae outbreak (but that as also caused by over-feeding).
