Female Apisto agassizii chasing male around tank

I have a female Apistogramma agassizii sp. 'Fire Red' that had a previous mate and had laid eggs with said previous mate twice before the male ended up jumping :)frown:). I went out to go get another male and had actually managed to find myself another male. However, it was slightly smaller than the female. Anyways, I got this fish because I was hoping for the two to breed.

Once I had acclimated the male into the tank, I've noticed a big amount of aggression, but it wasn't coming from the male. The female had started to chase the male around the tank. I had put in moss to help somewhat with the aggression and the male hides in the moss.

What is there to do so that the female does not continuously chase around the male?

The size difference may be the problem...male apistos (and cichlids in general, for that matter) are supposed to be considerably larger than females. Since this one is not currently, your female may be using that as a reason to believe that he is not a suitable partner, which would explain the aggression ('I don't want to have kids with a midget!' :red_mouth)
At this point I suspect your best bet will be to pull the male and let him grow up away from the female's bullying until he's big enough to stand up for himself.

He's not likely to grow as quickly or as well with her dominating him all the time.

What if there's no other tank for me to be able to put him in? I currently do not have any available tanks for the male :(
Go buy him a quarantine tank - even a simple storage bin would work.
Tank divider.
