Feeding spinach to daphnia

In the process of trying to culture green water for daphnia, I've found that I can reduce spinach leaves to absolute liquid using a hand held blender/mixer type thing (I believe that's the technical term). Would this be suitable for food as is? It leaves me with water that is green anyway, so I don't see how I would know if there was green water algae in it after aging.
