Excuses, excuses!

I get a lot of excuses as to why people cannot pay for plants or what-not I list on S&S. What are some of the excuses you get in this regards?

My favorite is "I lost my job" to which I want to ask "why are you fooling around with an aquarium?!?

No names, of course!!

I've heard that a lot. I always wonder why if they lost their job, why are they trying to buy something.
sometimes excuses are nicer to hear than, "i found what you were selling at a better price".
I haven't had many if any here. But I got an email once from an aquabid person telling me that i was a scam artist. Let me tell you, I sent her a very nice email in return:angryfire I was P.Oed for a whole couple days...

Idiots :icon_evil

PS. must have deleted the Email, was trying to find it, actually it may be on other computer. Will post it for a good laugh.
Hey andrew i think i saw it from somewhere. It was something about moss and
she said that there is ONLY one moss that is java moss. What your trying to sell is a FAKE

Please try to find it
Craigslist is the worst for that same kind of stuff. I was selling a 3 gallon Picotope a little while back and received a 2 paragraph e-mail listing all of the reasons why I was asking too much, among them were that they could buy a "Nice" 20 gallon setup for half of what I was asking. They also said that nobody on Craigslist would pay what I was asking. I wished I would have told them that I sold it the next day. Idiots.
I've been pretty fortunate with SnS thus far.
only 1 deadbeat after nearly 100 transactions.

a few things do still annoy me;

- reluctant buy/seller who you'd wish would make
up their minds quickly so you can buy/sell to another.

- people who assume since you already have a few
dozen PTrader points, that they don't need to bother
leaving any new positive feedback. I have a list of
a dozen unique people who owe me positive feedback.

the one thing I've learned doing this is to
always try to exceed peoples expectation.
this way even the ingrates will keep quiet.

financial excuses I have gotten were;

- I have too many tanks I can't afford to maintain,
so they offer useless items in trade instead of cash.

- We just adopted a new kid, so cash it very tight.

- ROAK recipients who don't even offer to pay for shipping.

I suspect most of the time it's just empty pocket
teenagers, who pretend to be adults for a freebie.

IMHO there is an equally amount of bad sellers as there are bad buyers. Most likley if you recieve alot of negative pm's regarding how you conduct business then you probably are not the best seller or buyer. If someone who is a well repected buyer or seller contacted me regarding an issue they have with me and how I conduct business then they probably see something that needs to be changed.

NOTE: I have refrained from quoting any of the above posts in fear of recieveing a warning or being banned

Hey you, watch who you're stereotyping! :hihi

Ehh I think I left a major section or two out of the email, but that is the thread. Forgot about that.

It got me really Ticked because of how I had just got it IDed in Singapore and things like that gave all information about it and stuff.

As for getting banned for comments, as long as it doesn't get personal or start bashing or a flame war whats wrong?

Nothing is wrong yet, stay civil and all is good.
Lol, my excuse(was legitimate) was that my mom never let me use her paypal. She said I was spending too much on the tanks -_- I never tried selling anything yet, nothing to sell.
Craigslist is at best a 50/50 proposition!

This was not fish related but a few months ago I was selling an item. This guy was supposed to pick it up and pay me $75 one evening. He never showed up or called to say he was not going to and the next day has the nerve to send me a link to the same item being sold in Boise, ID for $40 (I live in Ohio) and wanted me to match that. I sent him driving directions (over 2000 miles roundtrip) to Boise and told him to have a good vacation! (Sold it a few days later to a much better buyer!)

funny you say that. I've done over a dozen Endler's(Guppy) sales transactions locally in NYC for a few Months, and I get all sorts driving over to buy them at the curb. from a bluetooth ear'ed business exec in a $80k sedan, to a 300lb disabled person driven by his sister in a 20 year old hatchback. around 75% who contact me actually go through with their purchase. I only had one upset, where an adult emailed and called wanting 3 dozen fish, then after emailing and leaving a voice mail, I get no reply. oh well, his loss. One bizarre thing I've noticed is often when kids email looking for fish, they can be very skeptical of my fair trade intentions, and even abusive in their emails, sort of the same way they talk to each other in online game chat. I simply don't respond when that happens, as it's their parents job to set them straight, not mine.

LMAO, wonder what that guy said when he saw the email...

Spy looks like you've got quiet the operation there:thumbsup: Must be funny giving executive businessmen a little bag of fish to walk out to the car with.. Even though there is a good portion of them in the hobby.

Similarly, I was so angry that I basically told the idiot who had no interest in buying from me but felt the need to school me that if they thought it cost too much, they were under no obligation to buy it and to stop wasting my time. I like the driving directions though...that was a nice touch!
I've never had any bad experiences on this site or really any other forums.

I used to sell the heck out of red cherry shrimp on ebay though, and ran across quite a few varied responses as to why they weren't going to pay for their auctions.

1) I thought they were saltwater shrimp. I was going to put them in my refugium. ( The auction was listed as Freshwater Red Cherry Shrimp and a link given to an article I wrote on how to care for them.)

2) I looked into it more and I didn't realize they got that red. They'll clash with some of my other fish.

3) I didn't really want to spend that much. (It's an auction site.. you don't HAVE to bid more than you want to pay for something... sheesh.)

I had a few that wanted me to send another box of shrimp, at my cost, because they didn't get the first box I sent them. USPS delivery confirmation said otherwise, in each case.

I've also had a few experiences with people on auction sites, especially aquabid, trying to tell me that what I'm selling isn't worth it because of <whatever>. Usually they end their opinion with an offer to buy it from me for much less than the auction price.

A bit off-topic, but I once took a check from a deputy sheriff for a dog my wife and I was selling online. It was only like $100 and the deputy was in-state, so I figured why not. She took the dog, stopped payment on the check, and kept the dog, LOL. That was probably 9 years ago and the last time I ever took a check for ANYTHING.

I can tell you why a sheriff knows he could get away with it.
when you win a civil tort complaint, and can place a lien on
property to recover your costs, the sheriffs office actually
pursues the lien, and you have to prepay $1000 to pursue it.
So even if you wasted time in civil court pursuing this out
of principle, that sheriff knew it would be economically silly
for you to ever use the legal system to collect all your costs.

It would have been funny to embarrass him to his colleges,
seeing as he would have had to serve a lien on himself :hihi:

I had a similar situation on a $1000 check I got from a former landlord.
I took him to civil court, I won the judgement, but when I found out
how expensive it would be just to collect my money and costs back,
I abandoned the effort, and he ended up keeping his ill gotten gains,
despite the court awarding damages against him in my civil complaint.

Some people are just wired differently;
and take advantage of others whenever
they know they can get a way with it.
