Excel and red plants

I have four different red or pink stem plants in my 37g whose names I can't recall :)icon_redf). I was running two 2L bottles of DIY CO2 and I started dosing Excel hoping to clear up some algae. I wasn't using the OD method, I was following the directions. The color in these four plants became so vibrant! I had no idea one was supposed to be pink and green until I started the Excel.

I assumed that my CO2 concentration was too low so I added a third 2L bottle and stopped the Excel. My drop checker became a yellowish green. It's been at least a month since I did this and my plants are pretty much all back to being green. Why? Why would Excel make the plants red and pink but additional CO2 isn't?

I do believe that Excel helps plants utilize ferrous iron more effectively, and iron is important to red color in plants.
I hadn't heard that about Excel, I learn something new about it all the time. I'm trying an experiment to see if the Excel really does make a difference. I started using it again today and I hope it works because these plants are so much prettier with the reds and pinks.

Hopefully the cat is out of the bag on this one. Alot of people on here try alot of different things to get red plants redder. This is a new one for me too. Let us know your results.
Using a mixture of Iron and Potassium PLUS excel has really helped my red/pink plants pop. Also using a light that has a spike in the red spectrum will make the color more vibrant to the eye.
Sounds Cool. I'm starting out and have not even tried Red plants It would be good to know the reults of this so i can start out with my red plants booming!!!!

I can do that. I'll give it about a month and see how it goes. I'll take a pic when I get home this afternoon.
