Based on some older threads, I decided I would try to etch seiryu with muriatic acid. Here are the before and after pictures.

The stones are still drying post-rinse but I will add more pictures after they are dry.

Note: This is not just the difference when the stone is wet or dry. When wet, the stone is a darker shade of grayish brown but no where as black.

Yep I was pretty satisfied as well. I got a bunch of "seiryu stone" from Pisces off Amazon a while back (remarkable that I can have 35 lbs. of rocks-in-a-box delivered in under 48 hours for less than they'd cost at LFS).

Gave them the muriatic bath, and they came out looking great. And also my kids got to see me doing some mysterious magic with mysterious acid, so now I'm pretty sure they think I'm a wizard. So I've got that going for me, which is nice.
