hey guys, im new to the forum but not so new to aquariums, but i have never had the "perfect setup"

i want to know if this is enough light for my osaka 320-85g tank

i am running
2x t5ho
2x 67 degree 1700 lumens 6000k t8 led
2x 67 degree 1700 lumens 3800k t8 led

(i mixed the 6000k and 3800k because it give a really perfect balance in color i find)

my leds are outputting a total of 6800 lumens , i dont know about the t5

is this a good setup?

Just by looking at the photos you can see that you are getting most of the light from the T5 lights, not the LEDs. Depending on how high the lights are above the top of the tank, you could have from low to high medium light with just the T5HO light. I doubt that the LEDs are adding a significant amount of additional light.
How much watts are the leds, and are they diy?

it only looks like that because the leds are directional, they are not 180 spread, the are pointing down at 67 degrees, when i turn off the t5ho i get the same amount of light if not more

each tube is 18 watts

the fixture is diy not the leds

Look at the last photo, of the reflection of the lights on the water surface.
well ill take a pic with each on and you will see they are bright, its 1700lumens each... thats more than a t8
Lumens are a measure of how humans see light, not plants. Are they 5mm LEDs? Don't expect much out of them if so.

Try to count the number of LEDs and you can see they have to be 5 mm LEDs.

well you know more about lighting then i do,

here is my question for you

i want a heavily planted tank, i have a pressurized co2 tank and are planing to fertilize daily with the pps system daily

now i was sure this would be good lighting but i guess its not based on your knowledge of leds and my pictures

if i take off the leds and add 2 more t5ho will it be enough or do i need to go really high power?

btw by heavily planted i mean a thick layer of hc everywhere and other plants towards the back

That T5 light fixture alone is giving you a good level of lighting. I can't tell how high above the tank it is, so I can't guess exactly how much light you have. If it were right at the top of the tank you should have high medium light, good enough for growing all plants, as long as you use pressurized CO2. But, if it is hanging about 30 inches above the substrate level you probably only have low light. The LEDs aren't doing any harm, and if they make the tank look more like what you want it to look like, just keep using them. Adding a second 2 tube T5HO light would very likely give you too much light to be able to avoid algae problems.

Personally, I wouldn't use the PPS fertilizing method. I think it makes a lot more sense to use a non-limiting method of fertilizing, some variation of the estimative index method. You can adjust the dosages with that method so water changes are less of a chore, if you prefer.
