Hi everyone, I am about to upgrade my 55 to 180 gallon (6x2x2). I will use 2 Eheim 2217’s for the tank and was thinking I may have enough filtration but lack of current. Should I add couple Koralias to improve the water movement ?

I will house 15 discus, some tetras and Corys. What Koralia GPH would you recommend? Would 2 x 750 GPH stress them out ?

I currently have 2 nano on my 55 (425 GPH and 240GPH) and really like how they move the water but not disturbing the plants and fish. I tried to put one 750 before and it was chaotic in my 55.:confused1:

Thank you,

I think you'll want to add a powerhead, possibly 2 in addition to the filters. I have two 2217s on a 105 gallon tank and needed to add a Koralia to keep detritus from building up in certain spots in the tank. I would start with 1-750 GPH powerhead and then see if you need the 2nd.

I have 2x Eheim 2217 filters in my 75G. I have one 1600 GPH JBJ Circulation pump.
Planning to replace it with two Koralia Nano 425's in each corner.

I really like 2217 classic eheims and really dont want to upgrade to fluval fx5 or higher flow rate expensive filters. This is what i thought as well but still wanted to ask for more details:).Like you said, I will try adding 1x750 initially and see how the fish reacts. Then 2nd will be optional....

Thank you,

I love those Koralia Nano. Two 425 or 1x750 would be perfect for 75 gallon I think. My nano 425 and 240 have been running 24/7 for a year without a single problem.

I have a Koralia 750 in my 125 and it makes a great circular flow.

Also using 2 2217s. Spraybars on the back wall.

Eheim is superior to fluval...(my xp)
Tunze is the same to koralia!
Check them out!
Small, powerful, reliable and totally silents, u mean whisper quiet!
Been using them on saltwater system for years, and nothing comes even close to their quality, not even the Vortech Mp's.

I like my Marineland Maxi-Jet 1200, I fashioned a diy floss filter for it that keeps the water crystal clear on the cheap and it moves a lot of water. Just cut a small water bottle in half to attach to the intake, push the little powerhead strainer into the neck of the bottle from the inside to keep the floss out of the impeller, then fill with a handful of fiberfill that is changed out once a week.

This allows me to keep fine filtration out of the eheim canister so it only needs cleaning once a year -noodles, then blue sponge, then all the rest of the canister space packed with seachem matrix. I use a large 4.5" sponge on the canister intake that never needs cleaning and doesn't restrict flow.

Sounds like you have a great and effective DIY filter. Oh i just ordered 1 Maxi jet 1200 two days ago for my DIY auto dosing and hopefully it can pump the water 60 inches from the ground(rate for 70'' max head). I have 2 Marineland penguin 1140 i think it rates for 3oogph but can only pump water 3 f max.

Do you think if adding one more 750 will be too much for you tank?
For me, yes. Just the one mounted on the left side pushes a lot of water across the front and around the back.

Where are you going to mount these?

If I add just one for now. I may mount on the front corner where the CO2 is. That way i can have the powerhead push the bubbles throughout the tank.
