Anyone use these? was looking at it.... Would make getting the poop that settles on the sands out of the tank super easy. could potentially vacuum it nightly without the bucket brigade.

I looked at them and hoped but not tried. I have read that they don't do well on holding the fine stuff and cloud the water. Can anybody else tell us what they find? I'm interested, too.

I went with a DIY pump and filter so that I could vac and return the water to the tank but it is not a good item. Way too much trouble to clean the filter and get it out and set up. Also for what I finally got invested, I could have bought a nice small Eheim!!
Looks like I may have bite the bullet and be the test dummy
I like mine but somehow water got into the battery compartment and now the power button stays on, better than in the off position I suppose :)
Sounds like I may have to try one out for myself :) just don't like seeing poo circulating across the sand lol
I have one and think its awesome! I use it in combination with weekly water changes and helps clean fine particles and poop off my sand.
they don't work well if you have a fine sand sub. I have one and its nice to be able to get all the stuff out with out taking water out but once you get sand in the impeller it wears it out and make it not work as well but I'd say its worth the money
Sand in the impeller? Glad you mentioned that , MR BOB. That is a big complaint with me and my sand. I hate replacing impellers!

An idea for a workable temperoray cleaner? What would it do if one added a tee in the canister filter line with a shutoff so that one could have a coil of lightweight tubing and a pickup hanging on the back of the stand? Take it down into the tank and open the cutoff, letting the grung go into the canister while you do the quickie cleanup?
Well I bit the bullet and grabbed one. My only complaint is that while it does suck up the poo and everything, the suction is not terribly strong, but for spot cleaning it works well enough, even in my shrimp tank!

As mentioned above.... yea does not mix well with sand, thankfully I have the heavier PFS but you want to be careful not to jam the tip into the sand, either way for spot cleaning, not a bad little deal, wish there was a way to increase the suction some
Is it set up so that a person could add a longer tube at the front so that sand would have more time to sort and settle out? Thinking of something like the nozzle on Python types. The clear plastic tubing like sold for fluorescent light shields, maybe?

Oh Yea I am sure you could, may take a little diy, it comes with a decently long connection piece though
I am liking it, went home on lunch and was like eh... some poo *whirrrrrrrr* voila, poo gone haha
It's really nice to have especially if you have a carpet in the tank. I had some chain sword in my tank and it works great to pull all the stuff outta it. I saw that its worth the investment you just gotta watch what you suck up with it.
I just use a turkey baster and suck up the poo and squirt it into the intake of my AC500 lol
Small ones maybe, but the way its designed anything like the size of a pea would be to big.
