Could your house be cooler than normal? I know here in Charlotte, we are getting that cold front, so instead of keeping our house's heater going, we're just going without it for a couple-degree difference

The heater hasn't been touched at all. The house is cooler, but last winter it did fine. Nothing has changed, so I'm wondering why it would now be different. I guess maybe it's going out or something. No big deal I guess. I can always recalibrate or just bump it up a notch. Just didn't know if this was a common occurrence or not. Maybe as it gets older the heating element gets weaker or something.

I've never noticed an Eheim heater needing recalibration after being set up properly. It is possible that there may be some debris or calcium build up on the glass which should be cleaned off regularly.

Also, if the heater has been relocated into a more stagnant water flow area of the aquarium, this could account for a noticeable difference. Even decor, plants or rocks may have an impact on reducing water circulation around a heater.

Make sure you are also using an accurate thermometer to verify the tank temperature. I've had variances in temperature readings when using digital or stick-on thermometers.
