Eheim 2028 Double tap unit busted!

4062 Views 20 Replies 9 Participants Last post by  crazy loaches
So today I noticed that the base of the intake hose on my ProII 2028 was leaking. Not horribly, but a good steady drip that was enough to warp my particle board stand base (luckily the rest of the stand is solid wood, so I plan on just tearing out the particle board).

I went to take off and reconnect the hoses and the entire barb snapped off! I think I had too short of hose maybe, and the hose was putting pressure on the nipple/barb sideways until it broke off?

Replacement part: 7444578 Double tap unit w/sealing rings

Just wondering if anyone else has had this happen. This filter has operated flawlessly for 3 years, so all in all I can't complain but I did find it a little odd since I've never even heard of something like this happening before.

I haven't had it happen (yet knocking wood), but A local club member did have it happen, and I think you are right, it's from pressure on the barb.
I seem to remember someone posting similar a couple weeks ago here.
I'm not sure if it was the same model but it was an Eheim.
Mine broke as well, simple replaced it. haven't had the problem again. Seems I cut the hoses a tiny bit to short.
one of the barb broke off mine and i glued it back on with weld-on. Its been about 3 weeks now and no problems, just make sure you sand down the area where the glue will contact so it gets a nice grip.
Yeah, I talked to a friend of mine and he said the same thing, but he used the 5 min epoxy & sandpaper to rough up the contact surfaces.

I just ordered a new part, but I'll keep the old around and repair it just in case I have need of it.
Well, the next day shipping is true to their word. I got the part this morning, and the filter is back and running. Not too shabby. :proud:
Glad to hear you got the replacement part that fast.
Nothing like being short a filter.
What did you do? Were you filter-less for a day?
I have a powerhead in there with a big sponge over the intake that I'm using as a CO2 bubble chopper so I just left that in with the lights and CO2 on. The tank is pretty lightly stocked, maybe 20 diamond tetras, 4 ancistrus, and a bunch of cherry shrimp and very heavily planted. Don't think I had any losses, except maybe some clarity with my water.
Poor Jen! Glad you got it fixed, like I said, it was good you were there, last time I saw it happen no one was there and it nearly drained the entire 125. :icon_eek:
Seems this has happened many times. Dissapointing for the reputation of the big E as well as the cost of the proII line and the quality expected... I have a 2026 currently, no issues as of yet.
should have joined the filstar pimp club, we have stickers
For clarification, the last time It happened to me, it was a fluval, and I replaced it with an eheim which I love.

And I probably blame Jen more than eheim, Having tension on the barbs from short tubes is a no-no, and because I enjoy giving her a hard time. heh heh heh :)
Yeah I suppose all canisters would have this issue, I've heard of Filstars leaking around the barbs if there is to much weight or tension on the hoses. Just never heard of any snapping completely off lol.
It snapped off completely as I was trying to remove the hoses - I didn't really know what the problem was until I tugged on it, I just thought the hose was loose.

And YES, Jon's right, I take TOTAL blame for this one. :hihi:

I still <3 my Eheim. :proud:

I don't know. Sounds like a design flaw to me. I can see you stressing the barb and causing a minor leak, but snapping off the barb? I highly doubt you are directly responsible for that unless you are actually Super Girl and you just are trying to keep us in the dark. :)

You may be on to something...

You should use that as your avatar.
