I cannot find egg crate at my local lowes. Is this normal?

Look in either the lighting area or in the ceiling tiles area. More likely in the lighting area.

Lowes, Home Depot - they all have it. They just don't always recognize the name Egg Crate.

Yeah i second the fact they don't recognize the name egg crate...i went round and round with an emplyee before I finally found it myself at Home Depot...i think the technical name for it is "Light Diffuser"...i say tomato, you say toematoe...

after searching forever in my homedepot i finaly found both my acrilic and the eggcrate in the roofing area right between some roofing tiles lol. just keep looking, if you look hard enough in the building supplies you'll find it.

You can use a hacksaw or pliers. Just remember to mark your cuts before cutting lol

Definitely pliers. A hacksaw is slow (and painful) on this stuff.

Of course I learned this the hard way.

What's it's used for: False bottoms in Vivariums.

he is using it to create a false bottom in a viviarium he is working on i think.

A sabersaw/jigsaw with a fine tooth blade works really well for cutting the stuff...if you're into power tools and all.

I cut it with Stanley shears or other heavy duty scissors. It just snaps off the part you are cutting. It's messy, but it's fast!

I used a rotozip. Worked great! I put it in a 40L and after three snips had to go with a more effective tool.

I just jumped on mine until it broke into the exact piece i wanted...took a couple sheets but i finally got it...:hihi:

I bought some diagonal cutting pliers and they are the perfect tool. No more chipping and flying pieces.
