My first sanzon Iwagumi tank. There's only three rocks so it should be simple. But it isn't. i'm still not sure that the little rock looks good with the placement of the other two. Any critique would be welcome before I put soil in.

Iwagumi isn't always easy since the focus is purely on the rocks. It's even harder if you don't have a large selection of rocks to work with. The way you position the rocks and slope the soil will make a huge difference in the way those rocks will interact with each other. Personally I would add the soil and play around with it.

Thanks. Keeping it simple is quite difficult
Iwagumi is probably the hardest style to really do well, cus like HoC said your hardscape placement has to be perfect.
I agree with him as well put soil or even some sand so you can get more of a feel for what it would really look like.

Thanks guys. Adding soil does help. I am only using Eleocharis acicularis "mini" to start. Thinking of using the dry start method so I can't mess things up too much.

I would recommend you space your rocks out a bit. Just so you use more of the tank. Also I think tilting the main stone slight more to the right would help, as well as covering it a bit more with soil at the front so it looks more naturally places.
The 2nd largest stone seem a bit too upfront as well.
As for whether you should go for the DSM, I say it is up to you, either way would be fine. It is pretty useful for Iwagumi since your scape would be pretty much done by filling. Just remember don't make things too wet and allow ventilation to happen.

Thanks Opare. I'll add more soil and play.
