Not a fish but does anyone keep them in a heavily planted tank? I want to add two to my 75g, but want to know peoples experiences. Are they able to feed ok? I do not want to do any target feedings.

I believe that target feeding is what most be done with the fully aquatic frogs, African dwarf?

yup the african dwarf. Think it could be a fun addition to the tank, but not worth the efforts of target feeding.

I had them as a kid and they will easily find food, it is like they can smell under water but they will dig up gravel trying to get food that falls deeper in the gravel.

They aren't strong but they aren't weak either . I did not have them with plants but they would dig up around the driftwood .

They go insane for bloodworms or tubifex but will eat anything, even little fish if it fits in their mouth.

I never target fed mine but either way have you considered a dwarf siren?

I have never kept any but have seen them and neat. I mention them just incase you are looking for something different that is 100% plant friendly.

thats really interesting. i have never come across the dwarf. Seen their bigger cousins plenty. They are awesome animals. Have you actually seen the dwarf for sale?

I've kept them in the past. They are lots of fun to watch, but the feeding is a hassle. I never could get them to eat anything but live bloodworms. I'm not sure of their life expectancy but I've never had one live longer then a month. Having arms and legs seems to make it a bigger let down when they die... That's probably just me though.

Yes, I have seen them for sale and a guy in caudata forum has bred them.

I saw some a tank and they looked real neat.

They had some few days ago in kingsnake as I was looking at three lined salamanders and saw them for $10 each but now do not see them but they get listed there.

The southern type is the type you want. I find them snake like but love the gills.

What was it you could not keep alive the Dwarf frogs or the dwarf sirens?

I kept my dwarf aquatic frogs for few yrs , remember they loved blood/tubifex worms even the dry cubes but never kept dwarf sirens.

I know nothing about them but have read the northern dwarf (Pseudobranchus striatus) is difficult but the Florida dwarf (Pseudobranchus axanthus) has even been bred in captivity.

I looked up the scientific names as don't know it off hand lol.

I saw the Florida dwarfs in a pet store and they were neat .The guy had them for few months . I think it is illegal to sell native fauna in same state but than again this is Florida lol.

I've had African Dwarf Frogs. They're awesome, require very little special care. However, they have a tendency to escape tanks so if this is an open air tank, then these guys may not work out well for you.

I also keep red belly newts - they're awesome to have, move slowly and love to lay on plant leaves. They are also likely to escape if given the chance.
