Is yours piling on top of each other, do you thin it out often? I scoop out at least a fourth of the floating plant volume each week. Mine was shedding roots like white hairs all over a while ago- I guessed it was because the plants that had others on top of them that blocked light and they were dying. I removed half the duckweed so it was all spread even in just one layer.

But it could also have been due to a 3-day blackout I did, as part of a disease treatment. Which also probably caused some duckweed to die. It's fine now.

Well then, try removing some so it only lies in one layer. And you can corrall them to stay in one area of the tank- a piece of airline or even I've had a stem that came off another plant, held them all on one side until I saw it. So maybe keep them from getting buffeted too much by the filter.
