Not even a month after I set up my Ebi, I go and set up ANOTHER shrimp tank (thanks dunehole!)...:icon_redf I might not be done either...:icon_eek:

My plan is to stock the Ebi with Rili and this here Edge with PFR.

Equipment:
  • Fluval Edge
  • Fluval Shrimp Stratum
  • Petrified wood
  • Hagen MR11 LED bulbs
  • AquaClear 20

Flora:
  • Christmas moss
  • Hydrocotyle sp. 'Japan'

Fauna:
  • Random snails

This thing took quite the time/effort to scape, even as simple as it is (the hydrocotyle made me wanna kill myself)...but I guess it's gonna look like this for a bit:

I forgot to tell you there were a few stems of glosso in there too. Looks like you have them planted in the front right. If they work for you I can give you more trimmings in a couple weeks.

Looking good, hope it takes off.
Yeah I found 'em...not sure what they were but they had little roots so I plopped them in!

Yeah we'll see, hopefully everything does ok...the hydrocotyle really took a beating from me planting them...hopefully they're not too fragile...

I will have about 1000 more nodes in a couple weeks :icon_mrgr if they dont make, you are welcome to another handful.

Hahaha...they grow like weeds for you in your bigger tank! I put a few nodes in my Ebi too for kicks...we'll see if they do alright in there as well.

My shrimp come in today so I'll update soon! :)
nice! i wonder what it will look like 5 months from now?

Not sure, hopefully decent considering the lighting isn't too strong. Slow and steady growth is fine with me!

Anyway, major update...12 PFR SHRIMP have arrived (thanks TexasCichlid)! :D ...oh and I did a slight rescape...added some cholla wood (thanks ryantube!). The pics are sorta crappy coming from my phone though. Enjoy!

Revised scape

Top view...looks sorta like a sunken forest or ruins of some sort!

These guys are pretty shy right now...but one came out to say hi!

A PFR perched on the cholla wood. Only decent pic in the bunch IMO. These buggers are hard to photograph with my phone!

i hear PFR get their intense solid red after they've been berried a few times. Back when i kept them, I didnt know that so i was impatient and sold all of them as regular cherries lmao. so dont be dismayed if you dont see the brightest solid red at first. they will redden with time.
The guy who sold them to me said the same thing...they have to molt a few times before they turn a good solid red. His look like little lobsters! :)

To be honest, I'm already pretty impressed with them. All the cherries I've seen around my area aren't even as red as these juvies are!
One of my PFRs is berried! w00t!! :D

A couple more shots from this tank:

Congratulations on the berried shrimp! You have a super shrimp friendly set-up there :)

This tank is a jungle! I just had to remove huge clumps of riccia/xmas moss from the top of the tank near the opening because it has grown all the way up into the opening...blocking out all of the light! Now that I took most of it out, I can see that the PFR colony has gotten huge though! So many shrimp! They didn't seem to mind, but I'm sure they, along with my rilis in the Ebi appreciate being able to see some light finally.

I'm not exactly sure what to do now. There are moss/riccia stands/bits scattered around the tank and the bits that are still attached to the rock look really leggy/gangly and just unpleasant. Any suggestions on the direction I should move with this tank?

I think I may just pull the hardscape piece by piece and re-attach the moss I harvested back on to them. But before that I suppose I should work on pulling ou moss/riccia scraps out by hand, which is such a joy on the Edge...

Maybe a mod could help me out and move this over to the tank journals subforum?
