So i am planning to quit my job the right way, two weeks notice, leaving on good terms yadda yadda yadda, but i have been dreaming of epic quits ya know like in half baked or like all the great songs about quitting out there. I know there are people more creative than me, and people have planned, or had epics themselves. any one want to share some stories?

one from my end - 2 years back I had an interview with my present employer, interview went fine at the end they asked - can you join tomorrow..an' I was like :O! my then employer was not even aware I was there..an' that weekend was supposed to have been the most important release of the year to make matters worse - I was leading that project!! my reply was - 'how'?!? next thing I know - I get a call from the then employer that there has been a buy-out in of me(kindof present employer paying a compensation for my early release as a industry standard is 60 days notice period). That's the wackiest experience I personally had so far!!

Don't burn any bridges and skip exit interviews.

Society and employment are different today than thirty years ago. Your reputation has worth. It's all too easy to find oneself talking to people who know, or are related to, or acquaintances of people you currently don't like. Even total jerks may have relatives.

Well... I definitely have wanted to do an epic quit... I know I never will for reasons state above, but I sure would like to!

I work in a call center right now, and so I was considering several options. Since the call center is entirely US based, not outsourcing, I thought it would be funny to answer all my calls on my last day with an Indian accent, or maybe to answer the phone but instead of "Thank you for calling (my company)" I'd say "Thank you for calling (competing company)" and just confuse people... Not super epic, but sure would be funny.

The main reason you don't burn bridges is you might do business with your former employer one day or they can really help you out in the future as well.

I'm pretty sure your rep back then was worth something too unless you're Don Draper.

Well I quit Big Lots in 2008... I told the horrible manager I wasn't coming in to finish the last week. She told me I had to finish the full two weeks... I said I don't HAVE to do anything and walked out.

But then... I am unemployed but that's completely unrelated, Big Lots never mattered.

Your reputation has been and more than likely always will be the most valuable thing you ever will own. OK In reality it is the only thing you truly can own.
How valuable is it? I worked for a company in NY for 7 years. Developed a pretty decent reputation. My old boss and competitors were still calling me for things after I moved to FLA. 5 years later. When I went back to visit family all of them invited me out to dinner bar none. Rep isn't an important thing. It's THE important thing.

30 years ago or 30 years in the future it will always be 'their' game. Be smart and play by 'their' rules. Shake 'their' hand and smile because in you mind you're hitting them in the face with a pie.

When i was younger i had a buddy working at Wendy's and he quit by jumping out of the drive thru window and getting into my car. Then, at the second drive thru window, he told his manager that he quit and we drove off

When I worked in a call center, the entire month before I quit I scheduled every single call back for 3 months out. At the end of the month I got to spend my last week drawing and chatting with my friends there, and getting paid for it since our leads had ran out lol. Best last week of work ever.

How to blow off steam at an intolerable job: Curse out particularly stupid callers on your tech support hotline, with the mute button held down.

How to inadvertently quit: Wear out the mute button, so not only does the caller hear every word, but so does the system that "records calls for quality assurance purposes".

As a kid I worked night stock at Jewel Foods in Chicago. I was always on time and never missed. The night manager was a complete jerk who would not only yell at us but at times would actually push us. One night I was stocking shelves and this a** hole comes up and slaps me in the back of the head...I re did his face with a can of Hawaiian Punch and spent the night in the police station. Next day, got a job a Dominicks.

during highschool i was a lifeguard at an indoor pool. june of senior year, i quit by not showing up. which means they had to close 1 of their two pools for 3 hours.
now understand, i hated this boss with a passion. he was never there. when he was he would be on facebook on his laptop. once i had to go to the bathroom so i asked him to watch the pool, came back to him staring out the window with his nose press against the glass, where as i not only need to watch the pool, but got lectured on how to sit in only one particular position. he also liked to brag about how much money his ex wife had (no joke).
so i didnt show up. 15 min into my shift i get a call from him and tell him im not coming cuz i quit. he says im supposed to leave to weeks notice, to which i inform him that all he can do is fire me.

I didn't have an epic quit, but I had a nice slow burrnnn quit. I needed back surgery and was in alot of pain. My boss and I hated each other, and cause she knew I was in pain she would load me down with heavy files to carry around all the time, or if I was taking a break in the lounge and laying down cause of the pain she'd write me up if I was 2 minutes late getting back. Stuff like that - just being an evil person.

Well, I finally had my surgery and was out on disability for 6 months. The day before I was scheduled to return I called HR and told them I wouldn't be returning because I was afraid that I'd be treated the same way I was before and that it would impede further healing (I had complained to HR about it before surgery and they basically told me to suck it up). They were furious and they tried to deny my unemployment benefits but haha they LOST. So even though it wasn't epic, it was sweet for me.

like i said i've never actually epic quit a job, and won't be doing so on this one (my last day is jan 18). that being said, when i was a server at a diner here in San Antonio (Jim's) we would whip cream pie people on their last day, usually in the middle of the restaurant during dinner rush, it was a fantastic two years, until they did it to me.
