Good Afternoon Everyone,

I just bought some downoi and curious if this is healthy new growth?

Also, can i trim off some of the base and replant?

Hi @moonwasaloon

Pogostemon helferi (aka Downoi) typically grows as a clump not as a stem plant. The reason this is happening in your tank is insufficient light intensity to the plant is 'reaching' for the light. Yes, you can trim off some of the top and re-plant.

Thanks for the reply @Seattle_Aquarist !!!!

The section i put on red, that's was the way when i bought it. The Yellow section is the new growth.

So the yellow section is good growth, and i should be able to remove the red part, right?

Hi @moonwasaloon

If it was me I would trim off the top and plant it. I would leave the existing stem (in red) and see it it sprouts some side shoots that you can trim and plant in the future.
