i have heard that UG helps prevent algae, because it eats the little microscopic organisms that also provide food for algae. Obviously UG is carnivorous, but is it true that it will actually take food away from algae like that?

you might have heard that UG will eat algae spores. that would be the only way UG would really help with that. It might be true that they can catch and consume certain algae spores but I doubt it would be in enough quantity to put a real dent in algae if you have a real problem.

YES that is what i heard! haha right after Dollface posted that i was like wow.... im an idiot....

I don't have a real problem with it, its interesting that it could eat the spores. does UG tend to eat microscopic things like bacteria and algae spores, or baby shrimp and stuff that are actually sort of visible?
