I feel like I should know this, but my recollection of light waves is failing me.

I have 2 windowsill jars that receive indirect sunlight as their only light source. In the summer, our here in the NW days get long and they tend to get too much algae due to many more hours of exposure.

I was thinking about using some cling film I have that I put on a window for privacy, and covering the backside of the bowls to reduce the intensity but still let them look attractive. Do you think that would work? I suppose I could just drop some solid cardboard behind them during the day to block some but then its ugly and I like the aesthetics.
