I'm getting ready to drill my 29 gallon to set up a planted tank with a sump. I'm considering my options for the tank drain. Does anyone here have any experience with these: https://www.customaquariums.com/information/h2overflow.html.

I have an idea for how to make one out of PVC and wondered if anyone here has used one.

I wouldnt recommend a home made overflow unless you know water flow dynamics; you don't want an accident. What's bad about that design is the light its going to block; you'd be much better off with a slim design such as this:

Thats just one option, take a look at the others available at Marine Depot.
