Does anyone have any history on how the grading system was created for Red Crystal Shrimps? Did it it start in Germany?


So with a bit of research, I find it interesting - The word Mischling is German for Mixed Breed usually in reference to Jewish people who have partial Aryan ancestry.

Shrimp Hobbyists consider SS as a semi high grade shrimp. An interesting anecdote on the the SS was that they were a paramilitary group under Hitler with High Standards for the race.

The color associated with the SS was also a bright red color, much like the CRS

You are way over thinking it.

Mischlings refer to crs/taiwan bee hybrids, only recently named that, way long after CRS were bred and discovered.

Grading started in Japan, no link to Germany there.

SSS is the highest grade, not SS.

The same scale refers to CBS, which aren't red and doesn't mesh with your "red" theory.


And the best of all that blows your theory out of the water, is the Germans have their own grading system based on K and numbers and nothing to do with S's at all. lol.

You have to consider that when CRS started, A grade was pretty good already as B, and C grades being lesser. Then some tiger tooth and V came out, they look better than A (or, should we say they were harder to get than A), so they have to give it a new class. Since no alphabet is before A, the grade "S" came out (likely means super or supreme). And a few years later, even nicer pattern came out such as hinomaru or no entry, they couldn't just give it grade R (before S) because it would be confusing, so the term SS came out. SSS is the same thing. Nowadays you even hear SSSS or SSSS+ being used.

Ten years ago, a S grade tiger tooth was worth a lot more than the regular SSS you can buy today. And in Asian market, you'll find that most of the time SS sell for a higher price than SSS because most, if not all SSS have some golden gene in it, so the colour just isn't as good. However, in this hobby things keep changing/advancing. Nothing is impossible, SSS with very nice colour are not as rare as they were a year ago.
