I just bought two small bunches of Elodea from a local fish store several days ago, because they were cheap and look really nice. But my problem is that, in less then 1 week, each stem grew about 1 foot. Are they good for the planted tank? do they take away too much nutrients from the other plants?
Do you reccomend Elodea in a planted tank?

They're better as floating plants than rooted, and yes, they can grow very, very quickly.
Most people don't keep them in planted tanks for those reasons- but certainly you can if you want to. They're great for first cycling/establishing a new tank, especially. And for spawning or fry tanks...
