Like the title says im starting a 5.5 shrimp tank and I have this substrate do I need to rinse it???

Im feeling a bit lazy today and would rather not rinse 15 times if I dont have to...

I don't rinse mine, but I put a diatom filter on the tank to get rid of the cloud. It will take a few days to clear up otherwise.

I would. Especially on such a small amount of SS for such a small tank. Get the majority of the dust out and it will be much easier to get your tank clear.

Mott,

Do yourself a big favor and rinse the *#%& out of it. Do a search on Soilmaster in the Substrate area and you will find many experiences. One in particular thread:

And remember, it is not gravel. Don't be pushing it all around real hard while rinsing, it will make things even worse. It is baked clay and if it gets to grinding on itself, it will break apart and/or cause additional dust/smaller particles.

I have finally gotten things under control, but it was a long road.
