Do I need Leonardite with EcoComplete? How deep? How often replace?

I have a 7 gallon cube planted tank with a Beta and Japenese Algae Shrimp. I'm have a medium inensity LED and plan to use the Barr Non CO2 method but plan to supplement for a while to help with plant growth at first.

1. I did not add anything below my 2" EcoComplete Substrate. Should I add Leonardite or is this not really necessary? If I add it now, should I pull out the fish, shirmp, and/or plants for a little bit due to potential amonia spike since it has been set up for about 2 weeks.

2. How deep should I make it? Do it put it all under the EcoComplete or mix it up a bit?

3. Does the carbon and other good stuff in Leonardite get used up after a while OR does it not really need to be replaced.

Thanks, Doug

No it is not necessary. Having done so may have been beneificial if your gh is very low and you have plants that need high gh. Best to just leave things alone. If you get crypts just get API root tabs. Cheapest at LNT.com
